When we build, let us think we build forever

2008
'When we build, let us think we build forever' was a group exhibition held in a temporary exhibition space in the Loading Bay at Spike Island Art Space as part of Spike Open 2008. The exhibition included: Chloe Brooks, Michael Dean, Maria Brigita Karantzi, Anouk Mercier, and Tash. It was co-curated by Katie Daley-Yates, Tash and Chloe Brooks.

The exhibition came together through similar concerns shared by the artists exhibiting. Their practices interrogate aspects of their specific disciplines, at times to the point of collapse and reinvention. The exhibition therefore drew on the unconventional exhibition space of the Spike Island Loading Bay, a tall industrious alcove in the heart of the Spike Island, to address the temporal nature of both the work and the site.

As part of the exhibition and Spike Open Katie Daley-Yates was in conversation about the exhibition with Rosemary Shirley, editor and founder of cult fanzine Leisure Centre.

The exhibition was supported by the Spike Island Associates Programme.
